European Mobility Week – What Is It?

European Mobility Week (EMW) is a campaign organized by the European Commission that, since 2002, has offered municipalities across Europe the opportunity to introduce their residents to the full range of sustainable mobility options available locally. Every year from September 16 to 22, innovative transportation solutions are tested in creative and fun ways as part of EMW.

European Mobility Week 2026 in Jena

The City of Jena, along with various community groups, organizations, and businesses, is organizing citizen-focused events on topics related to sustainable and climate-friendly mobility. The program flyer is currently being prepared and will be published here starting August 10, 2026.

From open construction sites to neighborhood streets, neighborhood walks, and training sessions on using walkers and canes on trams and buses—over 20 events during European Mobility Week, from September 16 through September 22, 2026, over 20 events will highlight the diverse aspects of sustainable mobility in everyday life and bring them to life. In the truest sense of the word—even for people who aren’t quite as mobile themselves: The event kicks off on September 12, 2026, with “Stabil mobil” at Johannistor / Faulloch— an experience and test event for bike models suited to all life situations.

This low-barrier event, lasting several hours, focuses on hands-on experience. Under expert guidance, you can test various specialty bikes free of charge—including those specifically designed for seniors and people with mobility challenges, or that are particularly well-suited for them. You’ll receive close guidance to help you ride safely and with confidence. Come see for yourself how much fun it is to ride and discover the many ways specially adapted bicycles can be used.
