Call for expressions of interest for the operation of station-based car sharing parking spaces in public spaces

The city of Jena is once again carrying out an expression of interest procedure for the operation of station-based car sharing parking spaces in public spaces. A total of nine stations with 18 parking spaces divided into three lots will be offered in Jena. The procedure runs until 29.05.2026.

Car sharing is becoming increasingly popular. A distinction must be made between private sharing among neighbors or acquaintances and commercial car sharing. The difference to car rental lies in the contractual commitment to a specific company and the billing of services.

A distinction is made between station-based (vehicle is picked up and dropped off at a fixed location) and station-independent models (nearest vehicle is usually located via a cell phone app, parking at any destination).

Carsharing frei

Car sharing vehiclesgenerally meet the latest technical (environmental) standards. As they also partially replace private vehicles, the amount of space used for parking is reduced. For this reason, the federal government and numerous federal states support car sharing by enacting laws that facilitate the parking ofcar sharing vehicles on public roads. Jena is also planning to carry out a corresponding expression of interest procedure.

As station-based car sharing is a useful addition to local public transport (handling the "last" mile), Jenaer Nahverkehr (JNV) cooperates with the local car sharing companyteilAuto and offers discounted rates for its passengers.
