Construction Sites

Here you will find information on current construction sites and traffic obstructions. This overview includes only road closures that have a significant impact on traffic.
The list is updated regularly. Unless otherwise noted, you can pass the construction sites on foot or by bike.

As of: July 3, 2026

At the Leutrabach (Jena-Maua)

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: House number 20
  • Duration: July 6–10, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work
  • Details: The detour runs via Alter Handelsweg and Am Moorn.

Federal Highway 7 

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Between the Isserstedt roundabout and the entrance to Jena
  • Duration: July 6 through August 14, 2026
  • Reason: Road surface repair
  • Details: Traffic will be diverted over a wide area via Federal Highway B 87, the A 4 highway, and the Jena Zentrum interchange, with signage in place. In the immediate vicinity, the construction site can also be bypassed via Jägerberg or the Rautal valley.
  • Note: Access to Cospeda and Münchenroda will be closed from July 6 through July 19, 2026.Bicycle paths will generally remain open. Should temporary restrictions occur during construction, cyclists may only pass through the construction zone on foot.
  • Local Transit Information: Bus Line 16 suspended from July 6 to 19, 2026

    Bus line 16 (Isserstedt – Mühltal – City Center – Ziegenhainer Tal) will be unable to travel through Mühltal or serve the turnaround loop for the duration of the work. Line 16 will therefore be split into a city bus line and a regional bus line.

    • Within the city, Line 16 will operate between Ziegenhainer Tal and the Line 14 terminal stop “Langetal.” The buses will serve all stops along Erfurter Straße. However, trips via Rosental to Cospeda will not be possible. From the Langetal stop, Line 16 continues as Line 14toward Schlegelsberg. In the opposite direction, buses on Line 14 from Langetal become Line 16 toward Ziegenhainer Tal.
    • Regionally, Line 16 runs between Jena Bus Station and Isserstedt, using the route via Jena-Nord and Jägerberg. The stops along Federal Highway 88 cannot be served on this route. At the Isserstedt, Globus stop, there is a connection to shared-ride taxi Line 44.
    • Due to operational reasons, there may be occasional deviations from the regular route as well as changes to the schedules on Line 43 (Bus Station – Flutgraben/Kunitz), Line 47(Bus Station – Lobeda-Ost – Ilmnitz Roundabout), and Line 48(Bus Station – Burgaupark – Maua).

Burgauer Weg

  • Type: One-way closure
  • Location: between Mühlenstraße and the SteinMalEins all-day school
  • Duration: July 6 through presumably early October 2026
  • Reason: Utility line construction
  • Details: The project will be carried out in two construction phases. 
    • Phase 1 (July 6 through August 16, 2026): Burgauer Weg between the school and the turnoff to the boathouses. Preparatory work is scheduled for the first week, after which the eastern side of the roadway will be excavated to create the utility trench. Parking areas at the school will be available only on a limited basis during this time.
    • Phase 2: (August 17 to early October 2026): In the area between the boathouse of the Jena Rowing and Water Sports Club and the Lichtenhain Bridge. A temporary lane for local traffic is planned.

Erfurter Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Cospedaer Grund to the Mühltal town limits
  • Duration: July 6 through July 17, 2026
  • Reason: Road surface renovation
  • Details: Access to properties within the closed area is permitted. Access to the allotment garden area is also permitted— except during milling work and pavement installation. Please observe the posted signs.

University Hospital Stop (Erlanger Allee)

  • Renovation work on the stop has been completed.

Mühlenstraße

  • The power poles have been removed.

Remderodaer Straße

  • The drinking water line has been replaced and the road surface has been repaired.

At the Planetarium

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: No. 5 (near the Planetarium)
  • Duration: until July 17, 2026
  • Reason: Underground construction work
  • Details: The detour runs via Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße and Saalbahnhofstraße. Drivers heading from Fürstengraben toward the Damenviertel can take Bibliotheksweg and Sophienstraße.

August-Bebel-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From house number 27a to Botzstraße
  • Duration: through November 20, 2026
  • Reason: Major roadwork
  • Details: The construction zone will extend from March 16, 2026, to Botzstraße. Residents of Wilhelm-Külz-Straße can still access August-Bebel-Straße. A detour is signposted. Customers can only reach the Norma supermarket on foot.

Göschwitz Train Station, forecourt

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through July 31, 2026
  • Reason: Major redevelopment of the area
  • Details: The construction site can be safely passed on foot in the direction of Göschwitz Station. A limited number of bicycle parking spaces will be available in the green area across from the tram stop. Alternatively, bicycles can also be parked in the western area of the station.

Railroad crossings

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Am Steinbach and Brückenstraße
  • Duration: through July 11, 2026
  • Reason: Track work
  • Details: The railroad crossings will be closed one after the other, ensuring that there is always a way to cross. Detours are signposted, and information signs provide details on the respective closure times:
    • Brückenstraße railroad crossing closure: June15 , 2026, 8:00 a.m. through June 17, 2026, 8:00 p.m.
    • Closure of the Steinbach railroad crossing: Starting June 17, 2026, 8:00 p.m. 
       
  • Local transit information: Brückenstraße railroad crossing closure
    • June 15, 2026, 8:00 a.m. to June 17, 2026, 8:00 p.m.
    • June 25, 2026, 5:00 a.m. through June 26, 2026, 2:00 a.m.
    • July 2, 2026, 8:00 p.m. through July 8, 2026, 8:00 p.m.
    • During these times, bus routes 42, 43A, 420, 426, and 431 will be rerouted via the Am Steinbach railroad crossing.
       
  • Important:
    • The “Zwätzen” and “Flurweg” stops will be omitted.
    • The “Brückenstraße” and “Am Steinbach” stops will also be served by routes 43A and 431.
    • Delays and longer travel times may occur.
    • These changes may not be fully reflected in digital schedule information.

Bernhard-Schultze-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 2, 2026
  • Reason: Major road reconstruction involving utility and sewer work
  • Details: The work will be carried out in two construction phases. A detour will be signposted.
    • Phase 1: Am Steinborn from Löbichauer Street to Bernhard-Schultze Street
    • Phase 2: Am Steinborn to Klopfleischstraße

Carl-Zeiss-Platz

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: House numbers 12 through 14
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation and new construction of the German Optical Museum

Dornburger Street

  • Type: Various closures
  • Location: House number 6
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Reason: New construction
  • Details: A one-way traffic system is in effect toward the city center. The closed-off area is being used for construction site setup and loading/unloading. To head out of town, the detour runs via Spitzweidenweg and Nollendorfer Street.

Fritz-Reuter-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 21, 2026
  • Reason: Reconstruction of drinking water, combined sewer, and
  • electrical lines
  • Details: The work will be carried out in two construction phases. A detour will be signposted.
    • Phase 1: From Kronfeldstraße to Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg
    • Phase 2: From Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg to Tatzendpromenade; expected start in April 2026

Forstweg (bridge)

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between house numbers 12 and 24
  • Duration: through December 20, 2026
  • Reason: Replacement of the bridge
  • Details: The road is accessible from both directions only up to the bridge. Depending on the construction work, additional parking and stopping restrictions may apply. *Starting July 3, 2026, pedestrians and cyclists may cross the bridge from 2:30 p.m. on Friday through 7:00 a.m. on Monday. On weekdays, please use the detour via Kochstraße, Magdelstieg, and Hornstraße. All road users are still strongly urged to follow the existing traffic routing at all times. Due to the excavation pit in the construction zone, there is a significant risk of death.*

Farm Road

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through July 17, 2026
  • Reason: Resurfacing of the asphalt
  • Details: The project will be carried out in two construction phases. The closures can be bypassed via the adjacent road network.
    • Phase 2 (April 13 to July 17, 2026): From the intersection with Schreckenbachweg to Am Rosenhang, including Maria-Pawlowna-Straße.

Track expansion around Paradiesbahnhof

  • Type: Restrictions and closures
  • Location: critical point
  • Duration: until approx. March 31, 2027
  • Reason: Renovation of the tram line
  • Details: The project will be carried out in three construction phases. 
  • Detailed network maps and schedule changes will be published well in advance of the start of construction.

  • Phase 1 (June 29 through October 15, 2026): Closure of the track section from Paradiesbrücke up to and including the Paradiesbahnhof stop. Changes to the route maps for Lines 1, 4, and 5.
  • Construction Phase 2 (October 15 through the end of 2026): Closure of the track section between the Paradiesbahnhof stop and the Holzmarkt junction. This construction phase will result in an interruption of tram service and the division of the network into a northern and a southern section.
  • Construction Phase 3 (Spring 2027): Renovation of the small railroad crossing at the entrance to Paradiesbahnhof – with no restrictions on local transit.

Jenertal Stop (Stadtrodaer Straße)

  • Type: Closure of one lane
  • Duration: through August 14, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation work at the stop
  • Details: The bus stop will be out of service during this time. A temporary tram stop will be set up in the northbound/toward-the-city direction. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the street.

Herderstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between Wartburgstraße and Westendstraße
  • Duration: through July 30, 2026
  • Reason: Modification of power line routing (to be buried underground)
  • Details: Pedestrians can use ramps as well as temporary, alternating, and accessible routes. Cyclists should please use the detour and, due to space constraints, refrain from parking bicycles on the sidewalk.

Kritzegraben

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Intersection of Kritzegraben, Thomas-Mann-Straße, and Sankt-Jakob-Straße
  • Duration: through August 7, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work
  • Details: Drivers should take a wide detour around the closure.

K 12

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between Closewitz and Cospeda
  • Duration: until July 10, 2026
  • Reason: Road surface repair
  • Details: The detour runs through Lützeroda. The adjacent hiking parking lot will be inaccessible and unavailable during this time.

Lessingstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work and construction site traffic
  • Details: The construction site can be bypassed via Helmholtzweg.

Munketal

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From Pfälzer Straße to house number 1
  • Duration: through August 31, 2026
  • Reason: Reconstruction work on utility lines
  • Details: Traffic will be rerouted via An der Eule Street.

Naumburger Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From the outskirts of Jena to the intersection with Carl-Orff-Straße Süd
  • Duration: Phase 1 through November 30, 2026
  • Reason: Extensive infrastructure project (road reconstruction, sidewalks and bike paths, utility lines, tram line extension)
  • Details: The detour is extensive in both directions, starting from Camburg/Rodameuschel via the L1070 to Trotz, and from Trotz on the B7 via Bürgel to Jena. The junction with Carl-Orff-Straße Süd remains open to traffic at all times.

OBI Tunnel

  • Type: Complete closure of the pedestrian/bike path
  • Location: Camburger Straße to the OBI Tunnel
  • Duration: through August 14, 2026
  • Reason: Expansion of the pedestrian/bike path
  • Details: The tunnel will be impassable during this time due to the renovation work. Traffic will be rerouted via the Saalbahnhof Tunnel.

Rudolstädter Straße

  • Type: One-way closure
  • Location: Near Hotel Jembo Park
  • Duration: until July 10, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation of bus stop
  • Details: A traffic light is regulating traffic.

Sankt-Jakob-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure of the southbound lane
  • Location: between Kritzegraben and Spittelplatz
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Major redevelopment of the area
  • Details: Pedestrians and cyclists will be rerouted via Philosophenweg toward Sankt-Jakob-Straße. Kritzegraben, Am Planetarium, and Sophienstraße remain fully open to traffic.

Theobald-Renner-Straße

  • Type: Partial closure and full closure
  • Location: Full closure at house number 2
  • Duration: through July 17, 2026
  • Reason: Road resurfacing
  • Details: Traffic congestion is expected.
    • Properties and parking spaces remain accessible.
    • The full road closure near house number 2 can be bypassed via the detour on Theobold-Renner-Straße.
  • Access to the swimming pool and the parking lot is guaranteed.

Wöllnitz Pedestrian Bridge

  • Type: Restrictions and closures
  • Location: in the area of Stadtrodaer Straße
  • Duration: through September 12, 2026
  • Reason: Bridge renovation
  • Details: The project will be carried out in 5 construction phases. During the 5th phase, the bridge will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.
    • Phase 5 (June 27 through September 12, 2026): The lanes heading into town will be closed; traffic will be diverted to the opposite direction.
