Here you will find the current roadworks and traffic obstructions. This overview only contains road closures with major traffic significance.
The list is updated on an ongoing basis. Unless otherwise indicated, you can get past the roadworks on foot or by bike.

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: Above the Max Planck Institute
  • Duration: 27.10. to 05.11.2025
  • Reason: Crane installation

Kahlaische Straße 2

  • Type: Half-sided closure
  • Location: At house number 2
  • Duration 29.10.2025, from 08:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • Reason: Tree work
  • Details: A one-way street regulation will be set up in the direction of the city center. Outbound traffic will be diverted via Winzerla or Stadtrodaer Straße.

Hermann-Löns-Straße 64

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: At house number 64
  • Duration: 03. to 21.11.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works
  • Details: A detour will be signposted.

Gembdental

  • Preparations have been made for the construction of the new drinking water pipeline.

Lichtenhainer Straße

  • District heating has been laid.

August-Bebel-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: from house number 27a to the junction of Gutenbergstraße / Semmelweisstraße
  • Duration: until 19.12.2025
  • Reason: Fundamental expansion
  • Details: A detour is signposted.

Göschwitz station, forecourt

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Duration: until 30.06.2026
  • Reason: Fundamental expansion of the area
  • Details: The construction site can be safely passed on foot in the direction of Göschwitz station. A limited number of bicycle parking spaces will be provided opposite the streetcar stop in the green area. Alternatively, bicycles can also be parked in the western area of the station.

Brändströmstraße 50/52

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: Area around house numbers 50/52
  • Duration: until 30.10.2025
  • Reason: Renovation work on the outdoor facilities and media relocation

Buchaer Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: Junction Buchaer Straße 6-12 up to house number 16
  • Duration: until 05.12.2025
  • Reason: Road renovation 1st construction phase
  • Details: A detour will be signposted. The 2nd construction phase will take place in the second quarter of 2026.

Carl-Zeiß-Platz

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: House numbers 12 to 14
  • Duration: until 31.12.2026
  • Reason: Renovation and new construction of the German Optical Museum

Dornburger Straße 6

  • Type: Various closures
  • Duration: until 31.10.2025
  • Reason: New building construction
  • Detail: There is a one-way regulation into the city. The restricted area will be used for construction site equipment and loading/unloading. The detour out of town is via Spitzweidenweg and Nollendorfer Straße.

Ernst-Thälmann-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: between house number 1 and Bärengasse
  • Duration: until 30.10.2025
  • Reason: Line extension
  • Details: The measure will be carried out in two construction phases. The access roads "Am Johannisberg" and "Am Alten Schloss" will remain accessible for residents.

Franz-Kugler-Straße 6

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: At house number 6
  • Duration: until 27.11.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works
  • Details: The area should be widely avoided.

Fritz-Reuter-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Duration: until 21.10.2026
  • Reason: Reconstruction of drinking water, mixed water and electrical pipes
  • Details: The work will be carried out in two construction phases. A detour will be signposted.
    • 1st construction phase: From Kronfeldstraße to Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg
    • 2nd construction phase: Viktor-von-Scheffel-Weg to Tatzendpromenade, start approx. April 2026

Forstweg (bridge)

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: between house numbers 14 to 25
  • Duration: until 20.12.2026
  • Reason: Replacement construction of the bridge
  • Details: The road is only accessible from both directions up to the bridge. Depending on the construction work, there may also be parking and stopping restrictions. A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built. Until this is completed, pedestrian traffic will be routed alternately over the bridge to be replaced.

Forstweg/ Gustav-Eichhorn-Straße/ Am Birnstiel/ Okenstraße

  • Type: Partial half-sided road closure and sidewalk closures including parking bans
  • Duration: until 19.12.2025
  • Reason: Laying of medium-voltage and low-voltage cables
  • Details: The work will be carried out in stages - the construction site can be passed on foot. Access to individual properties may be temporarily restricted. Fire and rescue services can pass through at any time. 1st construction phase: between the transformer station at Forstweg 52 and the junction with Gustav-Eichhorn-Straße

Kahlaische Straße (sidewalk)

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: At house number 1 to 3
  • Duration: until 21.11.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works and sidewalk renovation
  • Details: Diversion via the adjacent road network

Keßlerstraße/ Lobedaer Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: Level crossing
  • Duration: until 30.11.2025
  • Reason: Renewal of the level crossing
  • Details: A large-scale detour via Lobedaer Straße and Rudolstädter Straße will be signposted.

Church square

  • Type: Traffic restrictions
  • Location: City church area
  • Duration: until 30.10.2025
  • Reason: extensive construction work
  • Details: Access to the town church and the stores will be guaranteed during the entire construction period. Cyclists must push in the restricted area. Bicycles may not be parked on the sidewalk or in the construction area.

Lessingstrasse

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz
  • Duration: until 31.12.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works and construction site transportation
  • Details: The construction site can be bypassed via Helmholtzweg.

Lutherstrasse

  • Type: Half-sided closure
  • Location: At house number 149
  • Duration: until 31.10.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works and material deposits
  • Details: Out of town, the half-sided closure can be bypassed. Inbound traffic will be diverted via Herderstraße / Sickingenstraße. The closure can also be bypassed via Erfurter Straße.

Mühlenstraße

  • Type: various closures
  • Duration: until 23.12.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works
  • Details: The detour leads via Lichtenhainer Oberweg. A traffic light regulates the traffic.
  • Addition: From 20.10.2025, the Mühlenstraße/Lützowstraße junction will only be closed on one side. Traffic can use Ulrichweg and the Lichtenhainer Oberweg detour. The section of Mühlenstraße between house number 48 and Ulrichweg will remain fully closed.

Oßmaritzer Straße/ Bertolt-Brecht-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: at the level of Bertolt-Brecht-Straße
  • Duration: until 30.11.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering works (drinking water pipe) as well as a surface renovation and installation of a crosswalk
  • Details: The construction site is safe to walk through, a detour will be signposted. During the closure, local buses will travel via Hugo-Schrade-Straße and Ernst-Zielinski-Straße to Schrödingerstraße.

Ritzetal and Berthold-Delbrück-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Duration: until 31.12.2025
  • Reason: Work on the supply and disposal lines
  • Details: The detour is via Am Steinborn and Eugen-Diederich-Straße. Bus traffic will also be diverted via Am Steinborn and Löbichauer Straße.

Schroeterstraße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: from Strigelstraße to Forstweg
  • Duration: until 15.11.2025
  • Reason: Fundamental road expansion
  • Details: During the construction period there is no connection to Katharinenstraße.

Stadtrodaer Straße (bus stop conversion)

  • Type: Road narrowing and bus stop closure
  • Duration: until 19.12.2025
  • Reason: Barrier-free expansion of the Lobeda bus and streetcar stop
  • Details: Temporary stops for buses and streetcars have been set up. These will be served as scheduled. From 18.10. until probably 30.11.2025, no streetcar service is possible at the Lobeda stop. Instead, the stop will be served by replacement buses for streetcar line 5 on its way from Lobeda-Ost to the city center. There is a risk of traffic jams.

Sankt-Jakob-Straße/ Thomas-Mann-Straße/ Kritzegraben

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: at the junction
  • Duration: until 30.12.2025
  • Reason: fundamental expansion of the area
  • Details: People on foot or by bike will be diverted via Philosophenweg in the direction of Sankt-Jakob-Straße.

Tümplingstraße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: between Tautenburger Straße and Kunitzer Straße
  • Duration: until 19.12.2025
  • Reason: Civil engineering work for the construction of house connections
  • Details: The construction site can be passed safely on foot.

Wiesenstraße, traffic circle

  • Type: Closure
  • Location: Brückenstraße is closed from the tracks to the traffic circle.
  • Duration: until 20.12.2025
  • Reason: Fundamental redesign
  • Details: The GWG Nord and Kunitz can be reached via the traffic circle.
